MixedChild.com Launches

A new online community for people of mixed heritage (biracial, multiracial) launches in July 2009.

Mixed Child’s mission is to create a sense of community for people of mixed heritage. With news articles, academic studies, event information, interviews, artist/business profiles and other relevant information, we hope to address some of the unique issues/interest of a person with a mixed background – from questions about which box to tick off on application forms to questions about belonging and identity and hair products.
The idea is that by being surrounded by others with similar experiences, a mixed child doesn’t have to go through life perpetually feeling like an “other.” A mixed child can grow and flourish with a strong sense of self, becoming the individual he was always meant to be –beautiful, vibrant and unique.
Our goal isn’t to be divisive or get boxed-in by labels and stereotypes- on the contrary, we want to cultivate a culture of acceptance where one can choose to define himself however he wants to be.
